Click & drag intermittently doesn't select text

intermittently doesn’t select text:

that text would be selected:

Repro: click in some text & drag sometimes text becomes selected, sometimes it doesn’t.

You may need to try a couple of times. It seems entirely random, maybe 30-40% of the time. There don’t seem to be any particular conditions that make it happen.

False alarm. It was being caused by a dictionary popup. It’s turned off now in trackpad prefs → Lookk up and data collectors.
