Footnotes cannot be presently attached to text within tables.
I was trying to record my payments by creating a table and sometimes creating a footnote to an amount would be great to add a more detailed comment for that payment.
Is this functionality going to arrive in a future version?

Yes, we work on the footnotes in table integration along with some other footnotes-related changes.

Don’t remember if I suggested it but I would love you to consider adding “inline footnotes” from MultiMarkdown (see second example here).
